Sensory room - is a safe space that will help children with sensory issues learn to regulate their brain's negative reactions to external stimuli. While this sensory room can be a calm space where students can regain control of their emotions, a sensory room can also provide a low-stress, fun environment for an individual to work through their emotions and reactions to certain stimuli. Although our students can’t necessarily take away their brain’s sensitivity to certain stimuli, they can train their brain to overcome its sensitivity by developing coping mechanisms that will serve them well in the world beyond their sensory space. Here are some ways that items in the sensory room can benefit our students! A sensory swing will soothe their overly stimulated senses and improve spatial awareness. A trampoline will increase coordination, assist with becoming calm and improve concentration. A weighted blanket/vest will create a sense of calmness/comfort for restless or stressed students. And the list goes on! Help us create a calming place for our students to learn!
