Based on my students' sensory needs and how they seek sensory inputs in order to learn and engage in the classroom, they need these sensory support items such as trampoline, wiggle seat, weighted lap pad, balancing ball, etc. Sensory input plays a huge role in my classroom because when my students' sensory needs are not met, it doesn't only affect the sensory seekers but the rest of the class as well. These sensory materials will give my sensory seekers the wiggle, the bouncing, the jumping, the touching, the deep pressure, and all of those outlets that could mistakenly be viewed as "behavior issues". When the sensory needs are met, the classroom atmosphere is calm, fun, engaging, and an active learning environment for everyone in our class. These sensory materials will also give my students the outlets for their sensory inputs, and in return, they will be able to pay attention, focus on the lesson, and perform the given task. All student deserves a chance to have a fun, engaging, and active learning environment rather than getting distracted or not engaged because their sensory needs get in their ways. Unfortunately, more than half of my class needs their sensory outlets to become successful learners.
