I believe that the environment in which students learn is one of the most important parts for success in a student's education. In order to learn, students must feel welcomed and know that the culture and climate of a room are safe and encourages respect and kindness. Giving my students a place where they can read quietly and comfortably will help provide my highly stressed APers with a space within our classroom that gives them an opportunity to unwind and relax - an important factor for their educational success. With my ever-growing collection of free choice, age, and level-appropriate reading materials, the shelf will help me better display these materials for student access, while the rugs and chair will give them space to relax and enjoy reading them.
