We have begun teaching coding to our learners as early as kindergarten. With the OSBOT Coding activities, our students will have additional means to investigate, work cooperatively, and problem solve. Our goal is to encourage children to want to take computer science courses in high school and beyond. At this time, we could easily enter the year 2020 with only 1/3 of the computer programmers needed to fill job vacancies and start careers we have yet to learn about. Children need the exposure early in their education in order to capture their interests while they are still learning about their world. We cannot ignore teaching our children computing, especially in our increasingly complex world. These are the skills students will need to thrive as adults, and moreover, these skills help students with their other subject areas. By integrating computing across all classes at every grade level, we can make it a true literacy.
