The presence of technology in a classroom is vital as students need the opportunity to develop skills necessary to compete in today’s modern world. Digital literacy is the most important learning lifelong tool in our contemporary world. Many of our students do not have the basic computer skills or resources which will be a requirement for successful 21st century college students. In today's modern era, literacy is more than the ability to read and write printed text; there is a world beyond our four walls, we want our kids explore it! The products that I have selected will provide my students the basic tools needed in a technology center. These tools will help our students to use technology to research, analyze, create and communicate information. The laptops provide a mobility that is effective when working with our writing partners, participating in teacher-student conferences, and writing in the media center. Many of our students do not have access to a computer at home and with increased work hours many parents find it difficult to take their children to a library. This limited access to technology hinders students from completing assignments which are part of our school's curriculum; like a personal narrative, argumentative essay/informational book (both require research), and a student created magazine. Additionally, students are asked to collaborate on various projects which require internet connectivity. Our school building's limited resources lead to many frustrations. One of them being students putting hard work into an essay/project and later not having a place to print their finished projects. The selected printer will provide us with the opportunity to print thousands of essays and projects without worrying about something that should never be a concern. Finally, the speaker, head phones, and headphone splitters will provide an audio center for our audio learners.
