Pre-K children learn through active play and hands-on experiences. Unfortunately, being in a program for low-income families and having 23 Pre-K classrooms, quality learning materials are hard to come by. While I try my best to use my own creativity and money to support my classroom, it is not easy. Receiving these new materials for our classroom from Lakeshore would give my students the opportunity to engage in the learning process in a fun and meaningful way. My goal, as their teacher, is to provide them with all of the skills they need for Kindergarten but also to set them up to be productive and happy members of society. The Lakeshore Active Play Kit and beanbag set will help my children to learn to play cooperatively while getting exercise and having fun; we can incorporate math/literacy/ and science into our games. Unfortunately, my school does not have a playground so we are in charge of bringing materials outdoors to play with. The Fairy Tales STEAM kit would be an amazing asset to help my children recall characters, story problems, plot, etc. in both languages. The Spanish letter tubs and letter books would help my children to learn the Spanish alphabet and their corresponding initial sounds in a fun and concrete way. Right now, I often draw pictures to show them but they don't always look as they should! Some other materials that I listed would be used in our learning centers around the room that I try and change weekly to go with our learning theme. Blocks Center/ Dolls is a favorite center of my children to role play different family and community scenarios. These materials would give our bilingual program the upgrade that it needs to help teach tomorrow's future. Please consider donating to these deserving children!
