The students in my classroom are grades 9 to 12+. They are severely learning handicapped. We have a range of disabilities within my classroom and a range of abilities. We do not have a set curriculum because they are far below their high school peers. The challenge for me has been to find content at their level that is still appealing to them and not too elementary. The high school that we are at is wonderful. They fully embrace my population of students. We have had the opportunity to be included in many activities throughout the high school. We have also implemented programs to encourage the students towards independent living. My main goal for my students is for them to understand and use technology and be able to function as an adult fairly independently. For some of my students this will be a longer process. I can have the students in my class until they are 22 years old, potentially 8 years. We fuel them with as much independence and know-how as we can in this time.
