I believe students thrive on learning through technology, hands-on projects, research, and cooperative learning. "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Benjamin Franklin. Most of my students are of Hispanic descent, coming from Mexico and Guatemala. Many are still mastering English and much of their knowledge of American culture, education, and history comes from what they have acquired through movies, television, music, and video games. They require lots of background knowledge to understand and be successful in most areas. Hands-on experiences and cooperative learning are also beneficial as well as numerous activities that involve speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They have a thirst for knowledge, but living in today's fast paced world need diverse activities to keep them engaged.
