My English Learners represent a very diverse population but share at least one thing in common--an evident desire to know and grow! Many of my learners also have in common that their first language is Spanish. I want to cultivate a love of reading with all my students and know that first language literacy skills can transfer to their learning of English. I am privileged to directly teach English to 60 students. For my lunch groups, I often invite my students as well as other English Learners to enjoy in each other's company while practicing their speaking and listening skills. These in and out-of-class times afford us with the opportunity to practice reading, writing, speaking and listening skills together. My emerging bilingual students are ambitious, bold and creative thinkers on a language-learning journey. Please help me in my first of year teaching have the resources needed for my students to succeed!
