I work at a great public high school, where the administrators support the arts and have very high expectations of students. We are fortunate to have two full time visual art teachers, as well as two music teachers. The high school is a large high school of about 1350 students, with a mixed student population. We have both well-off students and very poor students, with 30% of our student population that is economically disadvantaged. 17% is non-white. The high school has received the highest ranking possible in the state for the past three years and is the only school in the state to have achieved this. All involved (students, teachers, counselors, support staff and administration) work very hard to make this happen. Most of my students are respectful, enthusiastic, and wanting to learn.
