I teach kindergarten at a high poverty, title 1 elementary school on the east side of Las Vegas. 100% of our student population receives free breakfast and free lunch every day, with most also receiving 'weekend food bags' for their families each Friday. Most would describe our school's neighborhood as a "tough one"--we prefer instead to say that our students are resilient. My students come to me as ELLs, knowing little to no English, from homes that struggle to put food on the table or buy things that the rest of us deem 'cheap' or 'simple'--like crayons and paper. My little friends are eager to learn, and I am eager to give them as many opportunities as possible!

About my class
