The items in the shopping cart will help my students learn on the level that works for them. One student requires everything he learns to be on either the Promethean board or a tablet. He is a very bright student, but struggles when he has to use traditional forms of learning. The purchase of a tablet will help him focus on his tasks and be able to engage more during our daily lessons. The other students truly enjoy when they go to the school's sensory room. They seem to come back into the room ready to learn and looking for things to do. If I am able to recreate the environment of the sensory room in my classroom, my students will be able to succeed and participate in more classwork activities. My students love sitting on the balance ball in the sensory room. Having them in the classroom will create a fun and interactive setting which will make them want to interact with each other. They truly enjoy learning, but they require more stimulation to stay motivated. These materials will help in so many ways. The sensory boxes will help to stimulate them while they dig and search for items mysteriously hiding inside. They love all activities that require them to search for things. I have started creating a reading/relaxation “cozy” corner in the classroom so the students can take their magazines or book and take a few moments to themselves to enjoy a break. Even in the morning, the students use the leisure corner to work with their para to put pictures in their journal. By adding beanbag chairs and removing the traditional seating, the students can relax and really get there creative juices flowing.
