When I first got to my classroom, there were no books appropriate for the students who would be arriving bright and early for the first day of school. We had a barren classroom library for the first weeks of school, supplemented by read-alouds from my personal assortment of children's books from home. My students do not have many opportunities or resources to read in their homes, and are eager to engage with literature in the classroom. Our library has slowly grown, and we are now fortunate enough to have 5 small book bins. Unfortunately, because each of my students are on dramatically different reading levels, ranging all the way from Pre-K through 3rd grade, each student is currently left with limited number of books to choose from. Now that the school year is in full swing, the students have read and re-read each of the books multiple times, and are becoming frustrated by the lack of options. By donating to our project, you will not only aid the growth of our classroom library, but also help foster a love of reading in an animated, diverse, and unique group of learners. In order to encourage our student's growth as readers, we are asking for a wide range of books, ranging from Level A through H, to expand and enrich our classroom library. With this assortment of books, each student will be empowered with options that are not only appropriate to develop their literacy skills, but will also keep them engaged and excited to read every day.
