All students deserve to learn to love reading! In the Battle Hill Elementary School library, students in grades K-4 have the opportunity to check out books every week. Unfortunately, many of these books are quite outdated including an animal series with a copyright date of 1986! Since I joined the Battle Hill Elementary School staff in October 2022, I have worked to find sources of funding that will help breathe new life into our library. Battle Hill Elementary school serves a unique population in that 40% of students receive free/reduced lunch and 34% of students receive special education services (more than one-third of the student population!). We are also a minority-majority school with 34% of students identifying as Black or African American and 33% of students identifying as Hispanic. We look forward to working with you to ensure our school library matches the diversity and vitality of our school!
