The Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program (ACAP) is Alabama's state test. A portion of the test utilizes scientific calculators and it is essential for my students to have hands-on, ongoing practice with these tools to learn how to effectively use them. At this time I do not have scientific or four-function calculators to provide for my students. In the classroom, I provide ample practice and support for students to gain solid math foundational skills so that routine tasks such as multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction become automatic. Therefore, these calculators will not be used to supplement the learning of essential skills but to enhance student effectiveness on more advanced problem sets, provide additional methods for problem analysis, and accelerate problem completion on test items.
