Throughout the 8th grade year, our students are learning about about the formation of our country and government. From Plymouth Rock to the Bill of Rights, our kids are engrossed in projects aimed at making them better citizens. Visiting Washington D.C. is a culminating field trip that allows our 8th graders to visit the nation's capital. Students stand at the very spot where MLK, Jr. gave his famous speech and look towards the monument honoring our first president. The whole day is full of these types of experiences. Imagine the education that is taking place outside of the classroom. Say hello to Mr. Lincoln. The day starts with our arrival at the Lincoln Memorial. From there, we travel around to see the Vietnam Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the WWII Memorial, and the Washington Monument. After a little bit of a walk, we arrive at the collection of Smithsonian Museums. Our students will have the chance to visit the American History Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Air and Space Museum, or the Native American Museum. Some groups take time to visit a museum or place of special interest. It is not by chance that you may find a group of our students in front of the White House, at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, or at the Archives looking at the Declaration of Independence.
