My 4th grade students have a lot of energy, and I have found that they are really benefiting from learning through drumming. We just finished an African Drumming unit a few months ago, and I have been searching for another similar way of engaging them in music. Watching my students take ownership of their music and be excited to be in class and create something has been one of the greatest joys to watch. The buckets will be used to drum on, and the sticks will be used to play them. By using bucket drumming, students will be able to learn complex rhythms, how to write them, how to identify them, and how to play them, all while experiencing music! This unit also gives students another opportunity to partake in physical activity, which is good for their physical and mental health.
