My seniors mostly live in rural areas and most will also be the first in their families to enter a post-secondary institution. We are fortunate to live in a city which offers many educational options for students.Throughout the school year they have been introduced to various post-secondary options, from two-year and four year colleges, technical programs, and career- ready opportunities. During our Decision Day event we will recognize and celebrate all seniors who have made a commitment to continue their education beyond high school. The event will be similar to the Draft Day sponsored by the NFL, as students will sign a pledge to the post-secondary institution they have decided to attend. In addition to the seniors, we have also invited other students, parents, local community college leaders to participate as way of encouraging the younger students and families to prepare early for post secondary education. As an incentive for those seniors still trying to make a decision, the local community college will have computers available for students to complete their online admissions application. Students who have made a decision, or make a decision during the event will have their name entered into a drawing for door prizes, such as class of 2017 swag (t-shirts, key chains, photo frames, drawstring backpacks, lanyard, and class jewelry). Also available for door prizes will be gift cards, ear buds, and power bank chargers. My team and I are very excited about this event, and look forward to celebrating our seniors and their accomplishments.
