My school was started specifically to meet the educational needs of Native American students in a large urban area. The school has been operating for 15 years and now spans preK through grade 12. I teach science at the campus for grades 6-12. The school uses the rigorous International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program and encourages multiculturalism through language and dance. All of the students study in English, Spanish, and Nahuatl. They also perform as Eagle dancers. Each unit of instruction includes an indigenous body of knowledge that is supported by elders. This helps to build a lot of interest and community-based learning into the program of instruction. It is a vibrant and active school.
