My first graders are enthusiastic, inquisitive and wiggly! It is quite challenging to keep them on task reading independently especially when most of them are not fluent readers. However, they have an incredible thirst for knowledge. They love to hear stories read to them and participate in discussions about text. My students belong to Magnet program located in an inner city school where the poverty and need is common. Our elementary school is a PK-6 with about 500 students, 38 teachers, and of course budget cuts that impact their education. 100% of our students receive free lunch. We are
