One of the specific units of study that my 9th graders do is a unit on Time Management. Even adults struggle to manage their time so it is very important for students to begin this process of understanding how to organize how they use their time before they begin to feel overwhelmed. Sewing provides the ability to focus, manage fine motor skills, and increase creativity. For this unit, the students learn to sew and manage their time simultaneously. Most of my students have never been taught nor had the opportunity to sew prior to this class. I believe that by providing my students with the opportunity to practice time management skills in class they will be better prepared to practice it in their own lives. I also believe that teaching my students the skills required for hand sewing will give my students the confidence and increase fine motor skills which are extremely important.
