Our students need a safe and comfortable environment to discuss and problem-solve their concerns and struggles. Currently, our students sit on hard, plastic chairs under bright florescent lights in the counseling office. This does not provide that safe and comfortable therapeutic feel for someone sharing their tough life experiences. They will be able to participate in small group and individual counseling in a positive, therapeutic environment allowing them to process their academic struggles, family/home concerns, and friendship issues. Additionally, the resources included will allow our students to identify their feelings, manage their anger, and develop coping skills that will positively impact their lives. Our students currently struggle with basic social skills that these resources can help with the identification, understanding, and implementation of positive and healthy coping skills. My students need comfortable seating for individual and small group counseling, soft lighting to provide a therapeutic environment, and counseling resources to help them problem-solve and discuss their life and academic problems.
