We have had a bumpy start with Covid cases rising again just as we reopened schools. Administrators, counselors and teachers are making our children's social emotional learning a priority. This year, more than ever, we need to meet our students' basic need for safety and belonging BEFORE we can challenge them to engage in academic rigor. Desk shields for each of my students will give them an added level of protection, help keep them socially distant and keep them healthy. A desk shield for the teacher will help her resist the urge to get too close when whispering words of encouragement.
