I would like my students to have multiple types of areas in which to work. They might be kneeling, standing, sitting, working on yoga mats with a clipboard, sitting at a desk on a yoga ball or on a stool. Research shows that students are able to focus and do their best work when they are comfortable. After nineteen years of teaching, I have seen an increase in the diagnosis of ADHD and ADD in our children. It is a challenge to keep their attention and also have the expectation that they can sit in their seats for long periods of time. With flexible seating, the students will be able to consistently move or get comfortable while they are focused and learning. I also have children with other special needs that would benefit from flexible seating. I am going to transform my room to accommodate different types of seating. The hooks will be used to hang the kids' backpacks on the wall. They were previously kept on their desk chairs. Kids will be able to choose to stand at the standing desks, use a wiggle seat in a traditional desk chair, use a stool, or use cushions to sit on the rug to do their work. In order to help my students focus, I will be using an oil diffuser with calming oils and have fidget items available for use. Your donation will make the school day easier for all of my students.
