As we transition back to full-time in-person learning, many students are facing the reality of re-learning how to be a student. The online and hybrid settings meant many students have been attending class while on the couch at home sitting with their cats; they have been able to get up and wander as they needed, and they have often been able to move to more quiet areas when needed. This presented its own positives and negatives for students: some handled this well, and others completely forgot what being in a school is like. Regardless of the reason, each student is struggling to adapt back to the seating, volume, and fidgeting expectations in a traditional classroom setting. This is especially true for many of my students with special needs. These alternate seating arrangements, headphones, and fidget toys will help students with this transition as they find the version of our classroom that best suits them and their needs in a post-COVID vaccine world.
