My school has a wide variety of students. We are made of farming children, migrant children, low income children and children from the working class. Many parents are unemployed and cannot afford to buy school supplies for their children. With district budget cuts, teachers can't afford them either. Many families in this community are those that moved from a metropolitan, low income, high crime area in the hopes to find a better life for their children. These students are learning the difference between what it was like to live in a city versus miles and miles of orchards and open fields. The current economic situation has truly hit home with the families from our class!
