I have seen a noticeable difference in my students' productivity when they are allowed to sit where they choose. During independent reading and math stations, I have found that my students are far more productive when they are able to take charge of their learning. One easy way to give them freedom while keeping them focused is to allow them to choose where to sit in the classroom. Flexible seating means that I can meet the individual learning needs of my students. Currently, my students love to sit in our classroom library, in little nooks below tables, or at the bench near the window. Some like the structure of sitting at their personal desks, while others enjoy spreading out and having a space all of their own on the floor. Some like to find a place where they can be completely alone and focus, while others work best when they have someone to quietly collaborate with. This project will allow me to create different work stations around the classroom, as well as give the kids freedom of choice while doing independent work. Furthermore, the items that I chose for this project can be easily sanitized to promote a healthy learning environment. Not only are they comfortable for kids, I can quickly and easily wipe them down throughout the day in an effort to stop the spread of germs! I have seen how flexible seating can transform a classroom, and with your help I can start next school year with fresh and cozy areas for my kids to learn and grow!
