Very few of my students know how to read fluently, thus making independent work nearly impossible to complete. Most materials are inaccessible to my students because of their special needs. Headphones would open doors for them that are currently closed. With the help of quality headphones, students would be able to access more materials as well as work on their reading comprehension and fluency. Since most of my students work best in small groups, we spend most of the day rotating through different centers. By simply being able to use headphones, so many more activities would be available to my students. They could listen to math read alouds during math centers, play interactive sight word games during phonics, and build reading comprehension and fluency by listening to fluent readers narrate some of their favorite stories. This simple addition to our classroom would allow them access to the materials they need to succeed.
