This project will benefit our entire school. Here is a snapshot of Hastings Elementary: In our K-3 elementary, we have about 350 students. 55% of our population is students with high needs & 27% are English Language Learners. We have a strong special education department & 19% of our students have disabilities. I currently teach in a co-taught special education classroom. 24% of our student population is low income, and many of these students lack the resources to properly get outside and explore their natural world in a meaningful way. Hastings has a diverse population of students, but uniquely 34% of our population identifies as Asian. Many of these students are specifically from India. The next largest diverse population are our Hispanic students at 19%. Additionally, Westborough has 3 extended stay hotels, where homeless & refugee families seek haven.
