I have the privilege of teaching math to 27 incredible fourth graders, the entire fourth-grade level at our school. They are curious, energetic, and eager to share their ideas, but like all young mathematicians, they are still learning to trust their thinking and persevere when math gets challenging. In our classroom, we are building a community where students know that mistakes are part of learning. We celebrate questions, different strategies, teamwork, and those powerful moments when a student who once said, “I can’t do this,” proudly says, “I figured it out!” My students learn best when they are actively involved in solving, discussing, drawing, explaining, and learning from one another. I want every child, regardless of confidence or ability level, to have a way to participate and make their mathematical thinking visible. Your support will directly impact every fourth grader in our school, helping me create a classroom where all 27 students have the tools and confidence to become engaged, resilient, and independent math thinkers.
