The project would not only include my first grade students but four classrooms full of curious first graders that are second language learners. Our school has approximately 85% second language learners who have need of hands-on experiences that can only benefit their learning of both science and English. The school also has a high number of students from a low socioeconomic background. Many of our students have limited real life experiences. Growing plants in our classrooms will give them an opportunity that they may not have in their home.
