Although many elementary educators use technology as an everyday teaching tool, many of us fail to use it as a learning tool for our students. All students need various hands-on technology integrated into their lessons. Research has shown that technology rich environments increase achievement in preschool through higher education for both regular and special needs students. I teach a very diverse group of 2nd grade students in a Title 1 school. We live in a rural area where many students don't have access to technology in their homes. My students have varying ability levels and a variety of learning challenges. Many of them simply lack motivation. In order to reach the various ability levels of my students, help conquer their learning challenges, and increase motivation, I plan to incorporate iPod Nanos into my classroom. I can only imagine the thrill they will experience as they work with these awesome learning tools.
