My fifth graders live in a small, remote Alaskan village where resources are limited, but their hearts and dreams are big. Many of them grow up surrounded by strong family ties, cultural traditions, and the beauty of nature, yet they also face challenges that most children their age never experience. Despite this, they walk into our classroom each day with courage, curiosity, and hope. They are kind, resilient, and deeply supportive of one another. They celebrate small victories, encourage friends who struggle, and try again even when learning feels hard. Our classroom is more than a place to study — it is a safe space where they feel seen, valued, and capable. With additional resources, we can give these village children the opportunities they deserve — to explore, create, and believe that their dreams are possible, no matter how far from the city they may live.
