I work in a Title I school, which means that over 68% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. My classes include students from the lowest 1/3 of the school in respect to their reading and math levels and English Language Learners. English Language Learners are students who have been in the country for less than 5 years. My students come from over 20 countries from around the world. a teacher in one of the most diverse schools in NYC: 12% of English Language Learner's and 19% of students with special education needs, my students require extra guidance and supervision due to low level of literacy skills, high levels of lateness and absenteeism and behavior problems. Building my students knowledge for the required Regents Exam and keeping up their motivation is a daily struggle.
