I teach a kindergarten class of 15 energetic learners in a diverse Albuquerque community. My students come from a range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds, including families from Mexico, and generations rooted in New Mexico. This diversity fills our classroom with rich language, traditions, and perspectives. Many of my students are emergent bilinguals developing English while strengthening their home languages. They thrive with hands-on, engaging learning that builds early literacy and language skills. When students see their identities reflected in what they read and create, they feel confident, connected, and ready to learn. My students are joyful, curious, and resilient. With meaningful, culturally responsive resources, they will continue building strong foundations in literacy while feeling seen, valued, and inspired every day.
