Working on the NV SEL Competencies with students requires more than just curriculum. You need to provide them with the supports to truly open up and feel like they are being heard. Discussions, examples, hands on creation are just a few ways to help encourage open discourse. Self Awareness, Self Management start with giving examples that the books selected with help show. These books will also help older students support younger learners. They will be able to take their skills to lower grades and take Relationship skills with reading and having activities with primary students. Building relationships with all learners and helping foster relationship in the school with honest discussion and discourse will help student take responsibility and ownership of self.
