My students are a bright, energetic, and wonderfully diverse group of sixth graders who bring their own strengths, personalities, and ways of learning into our classroom each day. They are curious, funny, creative, and capable, and they thrive when they have the right supports in place. Some of my students are neurodivergent or have sensory and attention needs that can make a busy middle school environment feel overwhelming. Others simply need a quiet tool, movement, or a small snack to help them reset and refocus. Because our lunch period is later in the day, hunger can also become a real distraction. More than anything, my students want to feel successful. I want our classroom to be a place where all students feel understood, supported, and confident enough to take risks, solve challenging math problems, and keep growing—even when learning feels hard.
