Step into my classroom and you will find 20 energetic and curious young learners, ages 3–5, who come from low-income families and bring a wide range of experiences and strengths to our learning community. Some of my students are English language learners, and for a few, Spanish is their primary language as they begin building their skills in English. Each day, we focus on building the foundation they need for a successful start in kindergarten—learning how to communicate, follow routines, build early literacy and math skills, and develop confidence in a school setting. Our classroom is a place where play and learning come together through circle time, hands-on activities, and movement-based learning. Every child is learning how to become a confident, capable student, and our shared goal is to ensure they are prepared, supported, and excited for kindergarten and beyond.
