My students come from some of the poorest places in Portland, yet they are some of the most incredible people you'll ever meet! These students speak many languages, have differing learning struggles and successes, and are united through music. They are very fortunate to receive music instruction two times a week for 30 minutes in the intermediate grades and three times a week for 30 minutes in the primary grades. A unique feature of our music program is that it serves a district wide special education program housed in our building. These students benefit in a special way from playing instruments. Our music program is very strong, but has faced the loss of a music budget for the past two years. Because class sizes are growing, the need for more instruments is much greater than in years past.
