Welcome to our reading sanctuary at Tekoa Academy! My students are some of the most resilient and hardworking young scholars in Port Arthur. We are a Title I campus where 96% of our students are economically disadvantaged, but their circumstances do not define their dreams.They come to class every day eager to beat the odds. While our current reading proficiency levels face challenges, my students have an incredible hunger for 'just right' books that mirror their lives and spark their imaginations. They aren’t just students learning to decode; they are future leaders, scientists, and authors who are working double-time to catch up and excel. Every time a donor chooses a project like ours, I share the news with my students. Their faces light up not just because of the new items, but because they realize that someone—somewhere—believes in them. It reinforces the lesson I try to teach them every day.
