My students come from one of the lowest 10% performing schools in California. We have the highest number of absences and suspensions. Our school used to be the school that was the "last choice" when teachers were asked to choose a school. Our students live across the street in a government funded housing development where even their parents had grown up and also attended this same elementary school. Families have seen teachers come and go while giving up on their kids and their learning abilities. I work with a wonderful group of teachers who want to be here and are dedicated to inspiring and engaging the minds of our students. We are striving for academic rigor, community involvement, and student engagement. We are project based, inclusive school where all students who have a disability receive their special education services in the least restrictive environment; their classroom.
