School pride is evident in everyone at our school, from our hard-working custodians, dedicated teachers, and upbeat principal to our parent volunteers and super students. In spite of deep budget cuts, students in my third grade class continue to work hard and succeed in the classroom. However, those same budget cuts have made it impossible to replace badly worn and unusable PE equipment. Cheerfully, my students have practiced skills using broken bats, foam balls with chunks missing and torn covers, and flat playground balls. Some of this equipment has finally been put to rest, but we have no funds for replacements. We use everything we can for as long as we can. My students continue to take care of the school’s PE closet, carefully putting what we have left back in its place and never complaining. I love to see my students’ gratitude for whatever they have!
