These students attend school in an Urban city in Southern California. Most of them come from low income homes and have parents with limited English skills who are unable to assist them with homework. At the present time, we are working on increasing our classrooms reading and math scores so that they are successful on this years CST. Unfortunately, last year more than half of the class scored basic and below basic. My students are good kids who, unfortunately, don't all have the opportunities to use a computer as a learning tool other than the 90 minutes a week that we are allowed to use the computer lab. Most of them are not familiar with how to do research on the computer, use word processing, video chat, or power points.
