Each day my students come to school, they are ready and hopeful! They are excited and giving. My students dig in to learning right away, before the bell rings by getting a morning tub and sharing it with their table groups. Conversation flows as they put together a puzzle, create a masterpiece with building materials or drawing, or play a Guess in 10 Animals game. They take a break to get a bite of breakfast, fill up their water bottle, and turn in their math homework. Soon, one will come to my desk to read to me, and then tell me about their weekend, or show me a gap in their mouth from a lost tooth. Our days are sweet as we read, write, compute, ponder, share, plan, collaborate, and navigate through all things 1st Grade. As we come to an end after lunch, recess, and "specials", we stack our chairs and clean up our floor for the custodial staff. The room buzzes with excitement at the thought of going home.
