We all need a dictionary in the classroom, but it is not so easy for a Mandarin immersion class. It is hard to find a good Chinese dictionary, posters, signs, picture books, fiction, and nonfiction books to help students learn Mandarin without a bigger budget. This is especially true when the source is more difficult to find. Other than being difficult to find in a lot of areas, these resources in Chinese are often much more expensive. It makes a lot of difference if my students can have a Chinese dictionary to refer to when they put on their writer's hat. It makes a lot of difference if my students can access engaging picture books to learn well-written sentences and story structures. Your gift will go a long way in improving these students' literacy in a second language!
