In 8th grade science, students are learning about waves both mechanical and electromagnetic. I have so much fun teaching sound waves. However, I want to take it a step farther with having a vacuums chamber that will strengthen their understanding of the topic. This vacuums chamber will also have several other applications in my class. It will be well-loved and used. With the struggles that Covid and distance learning has brought, my kids' love of learning has diminished. Last year we were told to keep our kids in their seats and limit their movement. They are tired of looking at a screen and watching videos. Having this vacuum chamber brings the joy of learning back into the classroom. They get to witness firsthand how sound changes, water boils at room temperature, marshmallows explode, and so much more. Learning happens by doing not just watching a video of these experiments. Because of the limited supplies I have in my classroom, I have had to rely on video to help explain topics. It is always better when you can do the experiments or demos in person.
