Literature circles give students the opportunity to discuss books with their classmates. Through these conversations, they learn acceptance, cooperation, and communication skills. Listening skills are strengthened, and their levels of understanding increase. When students take ownership of their own learning, amazing transformations can happen! Engaging students with diverse texts is a way to keep students interested and motivated. Student choice is also important in the classroom. Through literature circles, students can have rich, thought-provoking discussions to aid in reading comprehension. Literature circles allow students to apply critical reading skills and have shown to be more valuable to students than traditional reading instruction alone.
