Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning. During independent and collaborative work times they would love the opportunity to work in a space that gives them options and choice. Currently, my students have an empty space near the STEAM Lab which could be used to offer flexible seating such as different height tables, sitting in a comfortable chair or beanbag, or sitting comfortably on a couch. Making sure students are comfortable is key in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating and can work comfortably. Students are more engaged and creative when given the choice on where to sit. My students are noticeably more engaged and creative in their work and collaborate better with their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The high top tables will go well with the stools I received as a donation and will allow students to sit up straight. These will be extremely beneficial for some students who may get tired easily and need to work with their feet off the ground. They can also be used for community events we will host in the lab! The comfy couch and beanbag chairs will allow for additional comfortable floor seating options. They are lightweight and can be easily used in many areas of the classroom. The shorter tables will pair nicely with the coach and beanbags. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
