As a World Language Teacher of French and Spanish, I intend to use the printer and a listening center to create learning stations to promote independent learning and to cover as many areas of language as possible. Stations will change to coincide with unit lessons and will include listening activities, speaking opportunities, reading of children's books and novels written for new learners, and writer's workshops. I will also include appropriate grammar and vocabulary practice within stations. Learning Stations will allow for frequent change and lack of boredom, which increases student engagement, fosters independent learning, and promotes a love of language and culture. Studying another language requires as much input in the target language as possible. In the public school system, we are limited to 50 minutes daily, so I hope to make the best use of this time as possible. In the low levels, acquiring a language requires thousands of repetitions and repeated daily practice. When students arrive to the classroom, the tables will be arranged in 6 stations with a different type of activity on each. Students will be pre-taught how to find instructions at each station and how to rotate or choose each station. They will spend 10-12 minutes at each station and will rotate when the timer goes off. They will have some choice on which stations they attend. There will always be speaking practice, listening activities, writer's workshops, and a reading corner. The other two stations will vary. Several of the stations will include movement and brain-based learning. The reading station along with other stations will include collaborative activities. I will monitor and scaffold where needed.
