These materials will help students visualize math concepts instead of just memorizing complicated algorithms. Fractions and operations with fractions are some of the most complicated concepts for young students to understand. Having the fraction tiles and Cuisenaire rods to help them to be able to see equivalent fractions and and their sizes, they will gain more knowledge about them than just learning the methods to solve the problems. Converting measurements is also very difficult for students to understand by just solving formulas. So, seeing what the measurements look like will almost guarantee understanding.
